Most of the Hindu religious ceremonies are incomplete without the use of a Nariyal. Breaking of the Nariyal symbolizes destruction of ego, which is a criterion for attainment of spirituality. The water in the nectar symbolizes divine knowledge, and the white portion is the mind (without ego).
